Top Ranked Pilots Take Two from TWU

SHREVEPORT, LA:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (33-17, 16-9 RRAC) fell in both ends of a doubleheader at top-ranked LSU-Shreveport (41-4, 21-4).  The number one Pilots won with scores of 5-2 and 5-0.
 
In game one, the Rams outhit the Pilots 8-4, but a TWU error, a walk, and a hit batter opened the door to a four-run third inning inning highlighted by a two-run double from Kyle Pearson.  A squeeze bunt from David Dorton made it 5-0 through four innings.
 
Brian White led off the fifth inning with a single to right and later scored on a groundout from Joel Horton.  With two outs in the inning, Taylor Jockers added an RBI single to cap the scoring at 5-2.
 
Tyler King (4-4) took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on four hits in six innings of work.  Jared Mortensen (9-1) picked up the win after scattering eight hits in a complete-game seven-inning effort.
 
In game two, the Pilots jumped on the Rams in the first inning.  The Pilots started the game with two singles and a double and plated three runs in the bottom of the first.
 
Nolan Barbee settled in after the first and did not allow another run through seven innings of work.  LSUS put together a two-out rally to score two more runs in the eighth inning.
 
Barbee (7-2) pitched well in the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits in seven innings.  Matt Lackie (9-0) earned the win after scattering seven hits in a complete game shutout.
 
The Rams and Pilots will complete their three-game series on Sunday.  Game time for the finale is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
