CEDAR HILL, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (30-13, 16-7 RRAC) took the finale of a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series with Northwood University (20-14-1, 10-7-1) by a final score of 14-2. With the win, the Rams took the series two games to one.
Texas Wesleyan got the bats started in the third inning, using a double from
Christian Soberanes and singles from
Taylor Jockers and
Joel Horton along with a pair of walks to score three runs.
The Rams batted around in the fifth as each of their first five hitters reached base and
Joseph Lassiter,
Stephen Niedwiecki,
Brian White, and
Jake Howeth knocked in runs in succession.
The following inning, the Rams put the game well out of reach. After two quick outs, the Rams proceeded to send nine more men to the plate and score seven runs on four hits, three walks, and a hit batter. The Rally was highlighted by a bases clearing double from Howeth, a two-run double from Soberanes, and an RBI double from Justin Barnes.
Meanwhile
Nolan Barbee (6-1) kept the Knights at bay. Barbee, making his 24th appearance of the season and his ninth appearance in Texas Wesleyan’s last eleven games, tossed all seven innings allowing only an RBI single in the fifth and a solo homer in the sixth. In total he scattered five hits and two walks while striking out six.
Six different Rams recorded multi-hit games as Texas Wesleyan outhit Northwood 14-5. Soberanes went 2-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI, and two runs scored while Horton went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. Howeth added a 1-for-2 day with four RBI and Justin Barnes knocked a pair of doubles in four at bats.
The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they host St. Edward’s University. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
