FORT WORTH – The Dallas Baptist volleyball team rattled off the first nine points of the fifth set in a 23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 23-25 and 15-10 nonconference victory over Texas Wesleyan on Tuesday at the Sid Richardson Center.

Lynsay Buell had 18 kills, and Katie Rosenbusch had 14 kills and four blocks for Wesleyan. Libero Stephanie Dominguez contributed 35 digs.

“I thought we had it when we won the fourth set,” said Coach Christy Clawson. “We fought back hard in the fifth set. Unfortunately, it was too late. The 9-0 deficit was too large to overcome.”

Texas Wesleyan fell to 6-5 on the season, while Dallas Baptist improved to 2-3.

Texas Wesleyan scored five of the last nine points of the fourth set to force a deciding stanza, but the Lady Rams failed to carry over any momentum after committing four errors during the Lady Patriots' decisive run.

Mary Trejo served four straight points to get the Lady Rams within an arm's length in the final set.

“We have to maintain solid serve receive,” Clawson said. “When we do that we can put the ball away and have more than one option.”

Alex Arroyo, a senior setter from Hutto who was selected the Red River Athletic Conference setter of the week on Tuesday, had 47 assists for Texas Wesleyan.

The Lady Rams will host Mid-America on Thursday, September 6. The match is set for a 7:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
