Lady Rams Eliminate Evangels

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (16-16, 8-5 SAC) picked up an easy 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-9) conference win over Mid-America Christian University (5-21, 2-11 SAC) on "Think Pink" Night at the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday night.
 
The Lady Rams and Lady Evangels sported their pink for breast cancer awareness and the Lady Rams sold "Fight Like A Ram" breast cancer awareness t-shirts with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Texas Wesleyan was never behind throughout the entire match, and the match was only tied twice in the first and second sets at 1-1. An Alex Hendee kill gave the Rams an early 7-2 lead in the first set. The Evangels went on a 6-2 run to make it 10-9, but Texas Wesleyan quickly squashed that going on a 13-1 run to take a 25-11 win.
 
The Lady Rams continued their run into the second set taking an 8-1 run to start to extend the run to an impressive 21-2 rally capped by a Katherine Rosenbusch kill. Mid-America was simply overmatched as another Hendee kill gave Wesleyan an 11-point 20-9 lead. The Rams went on to win 25-15.
 
Lauren Stevens caught the Evangels off guard with three consecutive aces to start the third set on their way to an 11-2 run to start, capped by a Bianca Upshaw pinpoint kill that kissed the back line for a dominant Lady Rams lead. The Evangels had no answer and failed to crack double digits as back to back kills from Hendee made it match point, match win. The Lady Rams hit a smoldering .714 with 15 kills, zero errors, on 21 attempts in the 25-9 win.
 
Head Coach Kimberly Weaver was satisfied with the win, "We limited the errors and executed with many different offensive lineups which is something we haven't done all season. I was happy with the way we stayed focused the entire match and we look forward to doing the same against Wayland Baptist."
 
Hendee led the Rams with 13 kills, hitting .632. Rosenbusch notched 12 kills, hitting .579. Lauren Hamaker tallied 18 assists. Lauren Hutchinson had 15 digs in the win.
 
Texas Wesleyan will travel to Plainview, TX to take on Wayland Baptist University on Friday, November 1, starting at 7:00 pm.
