Baseball vs. Tarleton State Gallery
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball program (20-12) got a 3-0 shutout win over Tarleton State University (15-7-1) at LaGrave Field on Tuesday.
The two teams played scoreless through the first third of the contest. The Texans limited the Rams to no hits, while Wesleyan starting pitcher Sam Martin scattered only two hits in the three innings.
The Rams were held off base until Jake Howeth drew a walk in the fourth inning. Howeth stole second to put himself in scoring position, and Henry Yates hit a two out RBI single to right for a 1-0 lead.
Texas Wesleyan picked up another run with a three hit fifth inning. Alex Padilla got things started with a line shot single through the left side. Trevor Moon followed suit with base hit that beat the third baseman through the left side. David Kiriakos plated Padilla with a bloop single into shallow left center for a RBI and a 2-0 lead.
The Rams added another run in the sixth after a Brian White lead-off double put a threat on the bases to start the inning. White moved to third on a wild pitch, and Charles Tabone hit a fielder’s choice RBI to put the third run on the scoreboard.
The Rams bullpen enforced some crafty pitching throughout the ball game after Sam Martin (6-0), who got the win after 5.2 scoreless innings on four hits while striking out one. Nolan Barbee struck out two and gave up two hits in 1.2 innings and after putting two on in the seventh, Sean Simonz came in a shut down the Tarleton offense to keep the shutout in-tact. Patrick Stanley came in and sealed the win for his sixth save of the season.
The Rams will head to Tyler, TX to take on Texas College on Friday, March 22 starting at 4:00 pm
