TYLER, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (21-12, 7-6 RRAC) grabbed an important conference win on the road against Texas College (12-22, 6-7 RRAC) on Sunday.
The Rams and Steers played a very tightly contested ball game throughout, both teams playing six innings of scoreless baseball.
The Rams got the go ahead run in the top of the last inning. David Kiriakos singled and made his way to third after a passed ball and wild pitch. Jake Howeth got the job done with a sacrifice fly to center field for the 1-0 win.
Kiriakos went 3 for 4. Howeth went 2 for 3 with a RBI. Brian White went 1 for 4 with a triple in the win.
Derek Vaughn (4-2) got the win on six innings pitched. Vaughn gave up no runs while scattering three hits to go along with three walks and three strikeouts. Patrick Stanley picked up his seventh save of the season with a spotless seventh inning.
The Rams will finish the series with the Steers tomorrow in a double header starting at 12:30 p.m.
