Box Score 3 HAWKINS, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (18-8, 6-3 RRAC) took the last game of the series in a 16-1 blowout of Jarvis Christian College (15-10, 5-4 RRAC) on Saturday. The Rams split a double header against the Bulldogs yesterday, with a 2-1 loss in extra the inning before winning game two 2-0.
In the series finale today, Texas Wesleyan jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off of a
Charles Tabone 6-3 groundout RBI.
The Rams had a big fourth inning with a runs coming from a
Brian White two RBI single, a
Henry Yates RBI single, and a
Dusty Harper RBI single, playing small ball to perfection.
Texas Wesleyan scored most of their runs in the fourth inning when they exploded for seven runs on five hits. Tabone tallied another RBI with a double.
Joel Rickman added a run with a sacrifice fly to center.
Jake Howeth got in the action with a two RBI double, and
David Kiriakos capped the rally with a two RBI single to make it a 13-0 game.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the fourth inning on a botched throw from the outfield that allowed a run to cross the plate.
The Rams added three more runs in the fifth starting with a Rickman 6-3 groundout RBI. Harper knocked in a run on a single, and Howeth made it 16-1 on a fielder’s choice RBI play.
The Rams shut down Jarvis the rest of the way to take the mercy rule win in seven innings.
Derek Vaughn (3-1) tossed all seven innings for the Rams. The senior dominated the plate, not allowing any earned runs, scattering three hits, while striking out 10.
The Rams will travel to Victoria, TX to play and double header with the University of Houston-Victoria Jaguars starting at 3:00 p.m.
