Baseball vs. Wiley College Gallery
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (35-13, 18-6 RRAC) took an 11-1 run rule win in eight innings against Wiley College (5-31, 4-20 RRAC) at Sycamore Park on Friday.
The Rams have a conference leading 20-4 record at home and it showed right off the bat as Wesleyan picked up an early lead in the first on heads up play by
Jake Howeth to score on a wild pitch. The Rams loaded the bases and
Dakota Lee drew a RBI walk, and
Joel Rickman did the same for a 3-0 lead.
Dusty Harper put one in the left center gap for a two RBI single for a five spot after one inning.
The Wildcats got on the board in the sixth after an Eduardo Fernandez double set up a Felix Nunez RBI single to make it a 5-1 game.
David Kiriakos led off the bottom of the sixth with a double off the left field fence.
Henry Yates lined a base hit into right center, and
Brian White was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Another wild pitch by Ramon Gelabert allowed Yates to score for a 6-1 lead.
The Rams added to the lead in the seventh after a Rickman stand-up triple led to a Harper RBI double off the center field fence. Howeth earned an RBI on an all runners safe fielder’s choice play. Yates brought in another run on a sacrifice fly to center to cap a three run inning.
The Rams pinch hitters finished off the game in the eighth, starting with a
Trevor Moon lead-off single to right field.
Jake Davis made it a 10-1 game with a sacrifice fly.
Dusteyn Suttle ended the game with a RBI single to right field to make it a ten run, 11-1 ball game, evoking the run rule for the win.
Harper led the Rams going 4 for 5 with three RBI and two runs scored in the win.
Derek Vaughn (6-3) earned the win working four scoreless innings pitched, allowing only two hits, while striking out one.
The Rams will end the series with the Wildcats in a double header starting tomorrow at noon.
