Rams Push Streak To Eleven With Sweep

HOBBS, NM: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (30-12 14-6 RRAC) made it eleven straight completing a sweep over the University of the Southwest (11-22, 7-13 RRAC) on Sunday afternoon. The Rams dominated in a doubleheader from the Mustangs on Saturday 20-7 and 15-5 before
 
Texas Wesleyan scored put a crooked number up in all seven innings of the first game, starting with five in the first inning.
 
The Mustangs answered right back with five runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game.
 
The Rams scored two more in the second that Southwest matched to make it a high scoring affair at 7-7 after only two innings of play.
 
Nolan Barbee entered the game in relief and completely shut down the Mustangs, throwing 3.2 innings giving up on runs on only three hits. His performance was good enough to earn the win in game one.
 
Wesleyan lit up the scoreboard as nine batter helped drive in 20 runs on 21 hits. Joel Rickman led the Rams going 3 for 4 with three RBI and runs scored. Brian White went 3 for 4 with two RBI. Jake Howeth added two RBI going 2 for 4. Trevor Moon went 2 for 5 with a pair of RBI in the win.
 
In the second game, Texas Wesleyan took the lead scoring five runs in the first and three runs in the second inning.  The Rams made it a 13-1 game in the top of the sixth with their second five run inning.
 
Southwest made it a 13-5 game heading into the seventh inning with a four run rally to try and avoid the run rule.
 
The Rams fired off two runs in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 15-5, and the Mustangs had no answer in the bottom half of the inning to put the run rule in effect, and give Wesleyan the game two win.
 
Texas Wesleyan once again put up a big number in the first inning, starting the third game with a 4-0 lead.
 
Southwest put up two in the third, and one more in the sixth, but that was all the Mustangs could muster. The Rams on the other hand, tallied six more runs for the 10-3 win securing the series sweep.
 
White put up gouty number leading the Rams going 4 for 6 with five RBI. Charles Tabone had a pair of RBI with three runs scored going 3 for 6.
 
The Rams will come back to Texas to play a road game at UT-Dallas on Tuesday,  April 9 starting at 3:00 PM before coming home to take on SAGU in a doubleheader Saturday, April 13 starting at 1:00 PM.
