FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (3-5-2, 1-2 SAC) took a 1-0 Sooner Athletic Conference win over Mid-America Christian University (5-6, 1-2 SAC) at Martin Field on Tuesday.
The game rolled through a scoreless first half and was just beginning to have the feel of a stalemate when the Rams came alive. In the 57th minute,
Brien Avalos took a corner kick and found
Ross McArthur in the box. McArthur's header hit the crossbar, but the quality chances continued to come for the Rams.
Just over two minutes later,
Drake Trease took a shot that was blocked, but
Brandon Head was there to net his fifth goal of the season.
In the 79th minute, MACU's Michael Johns took a shot from the near right wing that hit the crossbar, just missing a game-tying goal. However, the Rams did not allow a shot on goal until the 80th minute.
Arturo Sanchez (2-4-2) was up to the task of preserving his first shutout of the season.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Evangels 21-7 and led 9-3 in corner kicks. Tyler McIntosh made nine saves for MACU.
The Rams will return to action on Friday, when they host 13th ranked Science & Arts (OK). That SAC contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at Martin Field.
