FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (5-4) took an 8-5 win over Park University (0-5) at LaGrave Field on Monday.
For the third straight game,
Jake Howeth led off with a base hit for Texas Wesleyan.
Tyler Kamtz later brought Howeth in with a single to right. An RBI double from
Dakota Lee, and an RBI groundout from
Adam Turpin netted the Rams an early 3-0 advantage.
Park got on the board in the third. RJ Barnes started the rally with a one-out single. With two outs and runners at first and second, Kyzer Hoover delivered a run-scoring base hit.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Rams took advantage of two Pirate errors to break the game open with five more runs. With two outs in the frame,
Jose Martinez, Kamtz, and Lee came through with consecutive RBI singles.
Park responded in the fifth. Lance Kays drew a bases-loaded walk and Dylan Mays knocked a two-run single to right. An RBI groundout from Jeudys Garcia-Fortuna brought the score to 8-5.
Avery Sullivan (1-1) was called upon to put out the fire. Sullivan not only got out of the jam in the fifth, he held the Pirates scoreless for the remainder of the game, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out three.
Easton Etter received no decision after allowing five runs on four hits and five walks in 4.1 innings. Derek Gordon (0-1) took the loss for Park after surrendering eight runs, three earned, on nine hits and three walks in four innings pitched.
Kamtz went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in the win. Howeth and Lee each had a pair of hits as well.
The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they host East Central University. That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at LaGrave Field.
