Pilots Sink Rams with 8-Run Eighth

SHREVEPORT, LA:  The 20th ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (5-6) suffered a 12-5 loss in the opening game of a three-game series at No. 21 LSU-Shreveport (9-4) on Friday.  The Pilots scored eight runs in the eighth inning to secure the win.
 
The Pilots built an early lead, scoring two runs on three hits, including an RBI double from Connor McMullin in the first.  A double from Blair Landry and an RBI single from Ridge Gonsoulin in the second and a sac fly from David Dorton in the third pushed the score to 4-0.
 
The Rams began to chip away in the fourth.  Jose Martinez ripped a one-out double and later scored on a single from Tyler Kamtz
 
Jonathan Bravo led off the fifth with a hit and later scored on an LSUS error.  Manny Sanchez added a sacrifice fly and Martinez then tied the game with an RBI double.
 
Things got away from the Rams in the eighth.  LSUS recorded just two hits in the game, but capitalized on two errors, a dropped third strike, and four walks to plate eight runs.
 
An RBI single from Quavian Lawson in the ninth capped the scoring at 12-5.
 
Connor Zamora (1-2) took the loss after allowing eight runs on two hits in two innings.  Michael Wilson (1-2) picked up the win with two perfect innings of relief.
 
Bravo went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the loss.  Martinez added a pair of hits as well.
 
The two teams will complete the series with a doubleheader on Saturday.  Game one is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
