Rams and Pilots Split Doubledip

SHREVEPORT, LA:  The 20th ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (6-7) split a doubleheader at No. 21 LSU-Shreveport (10-5) on Saturday.  The Rams took game one 7-1, before the Pilots took the series with a 7-6 win in game two.
 
In game one, the Rams grabbed a 2-0 lead when Tyler Kamtz and Dakota Lee started the second inning with a double and a single respectively and eventually came around to score.
 
The Pilots plated an unearned run in the bottom of the second, but an RBI single from Joel Rickman brought the score to 3-1 in the fifth.
 
LSUS started the bottom of the fifth with singles from William Breland and Ridge Gonsoulin and loaded the bases with two outs, but Mitch McLeod was up to the task, ending the threat with a strikeout.
 
Texas Wesleyan got a run in the sixth with three straight singles from Lee, Ryan Adams, and Jonathan Bravo.  The Rams put the game away in the seventh with a run-scoring double from Lee and a two-out two-run double from Bravo.
 
McCleod (2-0) tossed all seven innings, allowing just one unearned run on seven hits and three walks while striking out seven.  David Diaz (1-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in four innings.
 
Lee went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI, and three runs scored in the win.  Adam Turpin and Bravo each had a pair of hits as well.
 
In game two, the Pilots took advantage of a Texas Wesleyan error that extended the first inning.  The Pilots send eleven men to the plate and scored five runs on five hits and two walks.  Another unearned tally in the fourth pushed the Pilot lead to 6-0.
 
The Rams got on the board in the fifth when Adams led off with a single and later scored.  In the sixth, RBI from Bravo and Jake Davis cut the score to 6-3.
 
An error and a passed ball allowed the Pilots to plate a run in the bottom of the sixth without benefit of a hit.
 
Jose Martinez led off the seventh with a walk and later scored on an LSUS error.  With two outs, Bravo delivered a two-run single to bring the Rams within a run a 7-6.
 
In the eighth, the Rams got the tying run into scoring position with singles from Martinez and Rickman, but Kade Billeaudeaux tracked down Kamtz's shot to deep left to end the inning.
 
Brandon Russell shut the door in the ninth inning, recording his third save for the Pilots.  Dustin Doucette (2-1) got the win after allowing an unearned run on three hits while striking out seven in five innings of work.  Alex Lopez (0-2) took the loss after allowing six runs, none of the earned, on six hits in five innings pitched.
 
Bravo was 3-for-5 at the plate with three RBI in the loss.  Adams and Martinez each had a pair of hits.
 
The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Richardson, TX, to take on UT-Dallas.  That game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
