OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball program (12-8, 5-1 SAC) used an eight run fifth inning to complete a 16-0 drumming of Mid-America Christian University (4-11, 2-4 SAC) at James Curtis Field on Monday.
The Rams struck first after a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases in the second inning for
Manny Sanchez. Sanchez drew a walk for a RBI and a 1-0 lead.
Adam Turpin singled home
Dakota Lee after that for a 2-0 cushion.
The Rams added a run in the third, while stifling the Evangels through four innings. Texas Wesleyan then exploded with an eight run fifth inning. Sanchez knocked in a run with a single to right field to start.
Jonathan Bravo drew a RBI walk before
Jake Howeth smashed a double to deep left field that cleared the bases for three RBI.
Jose Martinez added a RBI single to right field. An Evangel error allowed Martinez to cross the plate before
Joel Rickman singled in his second at bat of the inning for the eighth run and an 11-0 advantage.
The Rams piled on five more runs in the remaining two innings to take the mercy rule 16-0 win.
Easton Etter pitched an absolute gem in a three hit, seven inning shutout. He only gave up two walks, while striking out one.
Howeth went 1 for 3 with three RBI. Rickman went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI. Martinez posted two RBI in a 3 for 5 game. Turpin added two RBI, going 2 for 4 in the win. The Rams as a team put up 15 RBI on 17 hits.
The Rams definitely started spring break on the right foot and will look to continue their winning ways coming home to play Arlington Baptist College tomorrow, March 11. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm at La Grave Field.
