Drovers Outslug Rams

Box Score

CHICKASHA, OK:  The 20th ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (13-11, 6-3 SAC) suffered a 20-10 loss at the University of Science and Arts (10-13, 2-7) on Monday.  With the win, the Drovers took the three-game series two games to one.

USAO used a monster nine-run fourth inning to secure the win.  The Drovers sent 14 men to the plate in the inning and added five hits to five free passes and an error as all nine hitters in the lineup reached base at least once.

USAO set the tone offensively in the first inning with a two-run homer from Rafael Pena.  Adam Turpin tripled and scored in the second, but the bottom of the second started with a hit batter and two walks to load the bases.  The Drovers plated four runs in the inning to lead 6-1.

A three-run homer from Quavian Lawson capped a four-run third inning for Texas Wesleyan.  The Rams closed the gap to 8-6 with an RBI from Jake Howeth in the fourth before the Drovers put the game out of reach with their nine-run outburst.

The Rams got doubles from Tyler Kamtz and Dakota Lee in a four-run sixth, but USAO squelched any thoughts of a comeback with a two-run homer from Warren Stehn in the sixth and an RBI single from Pena in the seventh.

Alex Lopez (1-3) took the loss after allowing 14 runs, 12 earned, on nine hits in 3.1 innings.  The Drovers used seven different pitchers and credited Kevin Royer (1-0) with the win after working a scoreless first inning.

Kamtz went 3-for-5 at the plate in the loss with a double and a pair of runs scored.  Lawson added two hits and four RBI.

The Rams are back in action at home on Tuesday.  They will host Texas Lutheran University in a single game at LaGrave Field at 3:00 p.m.
