Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (15-13, 7-4 SAC) split a doubleheader with St. Gregory's University (7-18, 2-9 SAC) at LaGrave Field on Friday. The Rams took game one 2-1 before the Cavaliers responded with a 7-5 win in game two.

In game one, the Cavaliers drew a pair of walks in the first inning, but Manny Sanchez started a spectacular 6-4-3 double play with a dive to his right to help Sam Martin get out of the jam. In the bottom of the first Adam Turpin led off with a sharp single to center. With two outs, Dakota Lee cracked a double down the left field line that scored courtesy runner Anthony Samuel from first base.

In the fourth inning, the Cavs strung together three-straight base hits to tie the game at 1-1. Jake Howeth got that run back when he led off the bottom of the frame and blasted his third homerun of the season.

Martin (5-0) took care of things from there. He worked all seven innings, and allowed just one run on six hits to secure the win. Ben Moore (0-7) took the loss after allowing two runs on five hits in six innings.

In game two, the Cavaliers jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an RBI single from Mark Milioto in the first, but the Rams responded with an RBI double from Lee in the bottom of the first.

Joel Rickman led off the second with a single to left and later scored the go-ahead run from third base on a bunt by Garrett Gray.

St. Gregory's threatened right away with a pair of singles to start the third inning. Consecutive groundouts pushed one run across, but Mitch McLeod held the score at 2-2 by ending the inning with a strikeout.

In the fourth, McCleod looked like he had gotten an inning-ending fly ball, but Jacob Ratliff's shot to left was lost in the sun and went for an RBI double.

With two outs in the fifth, Howeth, Lee, and Jose Martinez strung together three consecutive hits to tie the game at 3-3.

In the top of the sixth, Ratliff put the Cavs back on top with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Fabian Reza laid down a suicide squeeze bunt with runners at second and third. The ball was dropped at first base allowing both runners to score. Reza advanced to third on a pair of passed balls, then with two outs attempted to score on a wild pitch. McCleod clearly appeared to tag Reza out at the plate, but he was called safe and the score moved to 7-3.

An SGU error and an RBI double from Quavian Lawson gave the Rams a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Lee led off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit. The Rams put the tying run aboard when Jake Davis reached on an error, but Chris Sutton got Sanchez to line to right to end the game.

Sutton (4-3) got the win after allowing five runs, four earned on nine hits in seven innings. McCleod (3-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs, five earned on 10 hits in seven innings pitched.

After delivering a pair of hits in game one, Lee went 3-for-3 at the plate in game two.

The Rams and Cavaliers will complete their three game series on Saturday. That game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start at Sycamore Park.
