Rams Run Away with Game One

BETHANY, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (19-20, 10-9 SAC) took a convincing 12-3 win in the opener of a three game Sooner Athletic Conference series at Southwestern Christian University (8-35, 3-16 SAC) on Friday.
 
After a bit of a shaky start, the Rams were rolling on Friday.  A balk, an error, and a wild pitch led to three SCU runs in the top of the first.
 
In the third inning, the Rams got sacrifice flies from Tyler Kamtz and Jake Howeth.  In the fifth, Kamtz put the Rams on top with two-run triple.  Kmatz then scored on a a single from Dakota Lee to push the score to 5-3.
 
After notching an unearned run in the sixth, Texas Wesleyan started the seventh with a double from Howeth and a single from Lee.  RBI from Adam Turpin and Ryan Adams brought the score to 8-3.
 
Meanwhile Sam Martin was in complete control of the Cavaliers.  Martin (7-1) allowed just one earned run on six hits while striking out seven in seven innings.
 
Texas Wesleyan put the game well out of reach with a two-run double from Howeth and an RBI single from Garrett Gray in the eighth.  Another RBI double from Howeth in the ninth capped the scoring at 12-3.
 
Brandon Kaufman came on to pitch the eighth and ninth for the Rams.  He allowed just a walk while striking out three.
 
Howeth finished 3-for-5 at the plate with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs scored.  Lee was also 3-for-6 while Kamtz, Jose Martinez, and Jake Davis each had a pair of Texas Wesleyan's 17 hits.
 
The Rams and Cavaliers will complete their three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday.  Game one is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
