Rams Complete Sweep of Eagles

BETHANY, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (21-20, 12-9 SAC) completed a sweep of three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series at Southwestern Christian University (8-37, 3-18 SAC) by taking both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday.  The Rams prevailed with scores of 4-2 and 9-4.
 
In game one, the Rams got on the board when Dakota Lee led off the second inning with a double and later scored on a Quavian Lawson base hit.  An unearned tally in the third pushed the score to 2-0.
 
The Rams got two more runs in the seventh.  Lee doubled again and later scored on a double steal with runners at first and third.  Ryan Adams added an RBI double to bring the score to 4-0.
 
The Rams missed several opportunities to extend their lead, stranding nine runners in the seven-inning contest.  However, Mitch McLeod dominated the game from the hill.  McCleod took a no-hitter into the seventh.  With one out in the final frame, Drake Johnson broke up the no-hit bid with a single to center.  SCU added another single and two runs, but fell short at 4-2.
 
McCleod (4-5) earned the win after allowing two singles and striking out an impressive 12 in seven innings of work.  Kirk Fontenont (1-4) took the loss after surrendering two runs on nine hits in five innings of relief work.
 
Lee was 4-for-4 with three doubles and two runs scored in the game.
 
Texas Wesleyan jumped ahead in game two with two runs on a hit and an error in the first inning.  SCU got a run back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Johnson.  The Eagles tied the game in the second with an RBI groundout from Chris Chambers.
 
The Rams responded by sending ten men to the plate in the third and breaking the game open with five runs on six hits and an error.  Howeth, Lee,Jose Martinez, and Joel Rickman all knocked in runs in the rally.
 
SCU took advantage of a Texas Wesleyan defensive miscue to score two runs in the bottom of the third and close to 7-4, but the Rams added an RBI triple from Howeth and an RBI single from Adam Turpin in the fourth.
 
Alex Lopez (3-5) picked up the win after allowing four runs, only one earned, on eight hits.  He struck out six in six innings of work.  Avery Sullivan pitched a scoreless seventh.  Forrest Weaver (1-7) took the loss after allowing nine runs, six earned, on ten hits in six innings.
 
Kamtz went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in game two.  Lee added a hit to improve to 8-for-14 (.571) in the series.
 
The Rams will return to action on Thursday when they host Northwood University in the opener of a three-game set.  That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at LaGrave Field.
