FORT WORTH, TX: The seeding and schedule has been set for the Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament May 2-5. Sixth seeded Texas Wesleyan will open against third seeded Northwood at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
The format will be unfamiliar to Rams fans who are used to the double elimination tournament they have seen previously in the Red River Athletic Conference. The SAC format is pool play followed by a single championship game. Pool A features seeds 1, 3, 5, and 8 at Oklahoma Baptist University (Shawnee, OK). Pool B features seeds 2, 4, 6, and 7 and will be played out at Oklahoma City University. Saturday's Championship match will be hosted by OCU.
The Rams kick off the Pool B action against third seeded Northwood at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. They will then face No. 2 OCU on Sturday, and No. 7 Southwestern Assemblies of God at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The winner of each pool will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Monday in a winner-take-all championship game. Ties will be broken by head-to-head results. In case of a three-way tie in pool play, the highest seed will advance.
The Rams went 26-24 in the regular season with a conference mark of 15-12. Oklahoma City is ranked 15th nationally at 32-16 overall. Northwood received votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll with an overall record of 32-18. SAGU is unranked with a record of 18-30.
Texas Wesleyan went 3-6 against their Pool B mates during the regular season. OCU and Northwood were both 7-2 while SAGU went 1-8. The Rams took a 10-7 win over Northwood although all three games in that series were hotly contested.
