Knights Drop Rams in Pool Play

Box Score

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (26-25) suffered a 4-0 loss against Northwood University (33-18) in their opening contest at the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday.

An RBI single from Carlos Contreras gave the Knights an early 1-0 advantage.

That turned out to be all the support that Cody Faulkner (7-4) required.  The junior lefty from Irving, TX, scattered 11 hits while striking out 12 in a complete-game nine inning shutout of the Rams.

Northwood added an RBI single from Casey Mullinex in the fifth and a two-run single from Contreras in the seventh to account for the 4-0 final score.

Texas Wesleyan put runners at second and third in the second, third, and sixth innings and stranded single runners in scoring position in three other innings.  Unfortunately they could not find a timely hit to get on the board.

Mitch McLeod (6-6) took the loss after allowing four runs on ten hits while striking out three in seven innings of work.

Adam Turpin was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, while Tyler Kamtz went 3-for-5.

The Rams will return to action in Pool B when they take on 16th ranked Oklahoma City University on Saturday.  That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. first-pitch.
