Stars Run Away From Rams

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (26-26) suffered a 12-0 loss at No. 16 Oklahoma City University (34-16) in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday. 
 
The Stars were ready to go early, putting up seven runs on six hits including RBI doubles from Connor Lynch, Forrest Smith, and Kyle Lacy in the top of the first inning.
 
The Rams got base-hits from Tyler Kamtz, Dakota Lee, and Adam Turpin in the bottom of the first, but Brad Wieck ended the two-out rally with a ground ball.
 
Lynch led off the second with a solo homer, while Lacy singled and scored in the third to push the margin to 9-0.
 
A double from Garrett Foster, and singles by Hunter Marcum and Ryan Wright in the fifth capped the scoring at 12-0.
 
The Rams had opportunities to score in the third and seventh with a leadoff single from Jonathan Bravo and a leadoff double from Jake Davis, but the Stars held Texas Wesleyan at bay.
 
Wieck (5-4) scattered six hits over five innings to earn the win.  Alex Lopez (3-8) took the loss after allowing 12 runs, eight earned, on 15 hits in six innings of work.  Dylan Measells worked a scoreless inning of relief for the Rams.
 
Jake Howeth went 2-for-3 at the plate in the loss.  Lacy, Wright, and Austin Murphy all had three hits for the Stars.
 
The Rams will wrap up pool play in the SAC Tournament on Sunday, when they face Southwestern Assemblies of God University.  That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
