FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (10-10, 2-1 SAC) pitched 13-0 shutout over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (7-19, 0-6 SAC) at Quicktrip Park on Thursday.
Â
It was all Wesleyan all game as the defense and offense completely smothered SAGU in the first game of the three game series.
Â
The action started in the bottom of the second inning, when the Rams busted out with a four run rally.
Jonathan Bravo singled to the shortstop deep in the whole through the left side.
Matt Horn drew a walk for a
Garrett Crook bunt that was good enough to go for a single to load the bases with no outs.
Jake Davis hit a rocket that beat the third baseman down the left field line that scored a pair of runs.
Jake Howeth followed suit with a long, opposite field double to the right field wall for two more runs for a 4-0 lead.
Â
Texas Wesleyan kept the pressure on in the third. Crook earned a pair of RBI with a base hit to shallow center field with runners in scoring position. That gave the Rams a 6-0 lead after three innings of play.
Â
TWU added an insurance run in the fourth.
Tyler Kamtz hit a stand up double to deep right center before
Rod Lewis loaded the bases after smashing a ball toward the left side of the infield, but the Lions were able to get a hand on it to slow it down enough to save a run. Bravo took advantage of the full bases with a groundout RBI for a 7-0 spot.
Â
Dusteyn Suttle brought a run home in the fifth on a RBI double to right center. He would later score on a throwing error by the catcher.
Â
The Rams put the game out of reach in the sixth after the Lions loaded bases via walks and a hit by pitch with none away in the inning.
Nathaniel Dillon hit a RBI groundout to plate one. Suttle knocked in two more with a base hit that vaulted right up the middle.
Taylor Zamora got an opportunity as a pinch hitter and delivered with a RBI groundout to the pitcher to make it a 13-0 blowout.
Â
The Lions put a runner in scoring position in the seventh, but Zamora made a diving catch in left field to preserve the shutout with the last out of the contest.
Â
Colton Clanton (1-0) was sharp in his first appearance as a Ram. He threw five innings, scattered just four hits, gave up no runs, had no walks, and struck out two.
Â
Suttle went 2 for 5 with three RBI. Howeth went 3 for 5 with two RBI. Crook went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBI. Davis had a 2 for 3 day with two RBI and three runs scored.
