Lady Rams Down Eagles

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (21-3, 8-3 SAC) added another win in straight sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-21) over Southwestern Christian University (13-9, 3-8 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday.

The Eagles held a slight edge to start the first set, gaining a 9-7 lead after a Dallas Bruns kill, and then keeping a 13-12 lead later in the set on a Courtney Traylor spike. The Lady Rams grabbed the lead after that and never looked back, riding a 7-2 run to an 18-13 lead after a Carli Owens smash. Brianna Jaramillo and Texas Wesleyan pushed the lead to 23-16, before taking a 25-19 win.

TXWES bounced to 6-1 advantage to begin the second set capped by a Shelby Stinnett kill. The home team continued on a steady pace and ran the score to 18-12. Shaeli Munroe put one away later in the set to give the Lady Rams a 22-15 advantage. Kayla Hayes put the Rams over the top with a service ace and a 25-15 win.

Texas Wesleyan led off the third set with a sharp 9-7 edge after Britni Mohle went back-to-back with kills. The Eagles kept fighting and took an 18-17 edge, but Carli Owens quickly tied the set with a kill. Kiersten Mebane capped a 5-0 rally with a kill for a 22-18 advantage. Ariel Emory laid down the last point to lift the Lady Rams to a 25-21 win.

"I'm very proud of our entire team, a very solid performance," commented head coach Kimberly Weaver. "The offense continues to get better, and that has everything to do with the play of our middles, Carli Owens and Brianna Jaramillo. They are working very hard on transition and that has created a lot of one on one opportunities for our pin hitters." Weaver went on and talked about the challenging week ahead, "This is a tough week for us. Four conference matches in seven days. Tonight's win gives us a lot of momentum going into the match at USAO, and we are also excited to come back home for a home match with Oklahoma City on Saturday.

Texas Wesleyan played three more efficient matches, hitting .276 as a team for the match. Blocks were 8-2 in favor of the Lady Rams. The score was tied 19 times and there were 11 lead changes.

Stinnett hit .444 with 13 kills. Owens hit .467 behind eight kills and four blocks. Sasha Robinson made some great sets in the win and posted 35 assists and 10 digs. Jaramillo added eight kills in the match.
