Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hot Shooting Night Delivers 92-78 win over SAGU

FORT WORTH, TX: The 20th Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team (8-2, 1-1 SAC) shot a blazing 60.7% from the field on their way to a 92-78 Sooner Athletic Conference win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (8-3, 0-1 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.

The Rams were scorching hot to start the game, hitting 71.4% of their shots in the first half including 70.6% (12-17) from long range.

The Rams led by as many as 20 points in the first half and cruised to a 59-45 advantage at the break.

A three from Ryan Harris with 13:39 to play in the game gave the Rams the largest lead of the night at 80-52.  At that point, the Lions finally found a way to slow the Texas Wesleyan attack.  SAGU rattled off 16 unanswered points, but the game proved to be out of reach.

SAGU's Lance Tipton drained four 3-pointers in the second half, and the Lions got the margin all the way down to seven points at 84-77 with 4:26 to play. However, Dion Rogers scored six of his game-high 23 points during an 8-1 run to close the game.

The Rams finished the contest shooting 60.7% from the field and 69.6% (16-23) from beyond the arc.  Their 3-point shooting performance proved to be historic with the most made 3-pointers since November 11, 2011, when the Rams went 16-for-30 against Sterling College.  Texas Wesleyan has not made more three's in a game since the school record was set at 20 (20-37) during a 113-91 win over Houston Baptist University on February 26, 2005.

Five Rams reached double-figures in scoring, led by Rogers' 23.  Jeremy Crane (17) and Ran Harris (16) produced all 33 of Texas Wesleyan's bench points.  Najeal Young added 13 points, and Peyton Prudhomme went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc to post 12 points.  Trevon Jeffery contributed 14 rebounds to the cause, while Naiel Smith added 11 assists to his 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Lance Tipton went 7-for-12 from long range and finished with 23 points for SAGU.  Keyunta Watkins, who entered the game averaging 18.9 points per game, finished with 12 points and 10 assists.

The Rams will return to action on Monday, December 12, when they host Barclay College.  That game is the initial contest of the only back-to-back on Texas Wesleyan's schedule.  They will turn around and host Huston-Tillotson University on the 13th.
