Rams Sweep Valentine's Doubleheader: 6-3, 4-1

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (6-3) swept a doubleheader and ensured a win in a five-game series with Avila University (1-7) at Sycamore Park on Sunday.  The Rams completed the Valentine's Day sweep with scores of 6-3 and 4-1.

In game one, Avila put runners at second and third with one out in the third, but Joseph Lyall recorded back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the jam.

In the bottom of the third, Alex Gudac reached on a leadoff walk and stole second.  After Casey Moses walked, Erick Quesada singled to center, then got in a run-down between first and second allowing Moses to score all the way from first.

In the fourth, Ryan Adam reached on an error and later scored on a two-out single from Jonathan Bravo to push the score to 3-0.

The Eagles got back in the game with two runs on a hit, a walk, and a hit batter in the fifth.

Brandon Chandler tied the contest with an RBI single in the sixth.  Avila loaded the bases with one out before Wade Regas induced an inning-ending double-play.

In the bottom of the sixth, Hayden Muns reached on a walk and Bravo cued a ball through the right side to put runners at first and third with one out.  Dusteyn Suttle entered as a pinch-runner and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.  An RBI single from Gudac and an RBI groundout from Quesada extended Texas Wesleyan's lead to 6-3.

Wade Regas (1-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief work.  He allowed just a hit, a walk, and a hit batter.  Jamie Good (1-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits in an inning of work.

Bravo was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored out of the ninth spot in the order for the Rams.

In game two, Bravo got the Rams on the board in the second when he dropped a double on the right field line that scored Ryan Adam from first base.

James Ziegler made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the third.

The Eagles put the tying run on base with one out in the sixth, but Stephen Yancey squashed the threat with a strikeout and a fly ball.
