Rams Shutout Saints, 2-0

SAN ANTONIO, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (9-9) took the finale of a three-game series at Our Lady of the Lake University (8-9) by a score of 2-0 on Sunday.
 
Three Texas Wesleyan University pitchers combined on the six-hit shutout.  Joseph Lyall (1-1) picked up his first win as a Ram.  The junior transfer out of Wharton County Junior College scattered five hits over six innings while striking out four.  Dusty Cloud held down the fort with two scoreless innings, and Wade Regas locked down his third save of the season with three quick outs in the ninth.
 
With two-outs in the second, the Rams got on the board with back-to-back doubles from Jake Davis and Garrett Crook.  They added an unearned run in the seventh, when Davis reached on an error, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on a single from Alex Gudac.
 
The Rams outhit the Saints 7-6 in the contest.  James Ziegler was 2-for-4 at the plate.
 
Texas Wesleyan will open Sooner Athletic Conference play this weekend with a three-game set at Southwestern Christian University in Bethany, OK.  Friday's opener is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
 
Ramblings
 
- OLLU took the three-game series 2-1 in the first ever meeting between the two programs.
 
- Texas Wesleyan leads the all-times series with Southwestern Christian, 5-2.
 
- The Rams are 27-23 all-time in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
 
- Sunday's game was the first shutout of the season for Texas Wesleyan.  Meanwhile, the Rams' offense has not been shutout in the first 18 games of the season.
