MIDLAND, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's tennis team split a pair of matches at Bush Tennis Center on Friday. The Rams defeated Sul Ross State (2-8) 6-3 and then fell by the same score to UT-Permian Basin (1-9).
Against the Lobos, the Rams breezed through a pair of doubles matches and took three singles contests as well as No. 3 doubles by default.
Katy Foster and
Emily Murchland stayed hot with an 8-0 win in No. 1 doubles, while
Laura Grunden and
Emily Rodriguez won 8-1 on the second line.
Foster and Murchland stretched their winning streak to nine in a row with a win in No. 1 doubles against the Falcons. However, UTPB took an 8-4 win in No. 2 doubles. In No. 3 doubles, UTPB's twin sisters Shelby and Megan Greene just edged
Maggie Brasher and
Ashton Willis 9-7.
Singles wins by
Emily Murchland (6-1, 6-2 over Lisa Roslanova) and
Katy Foster (6-1,-6-2 over Fernanda Orona) left the Rams just short as the Falcons took the lower four singles matches.
The Lady Rams will return to action on March 24, when they take on North Central Texas College in an exhibition in Gainsville, TX.
Ramblings
- Foster and Murchland are 9-1 as a doubles combination.
- Murchland is now 9-2 in No. 1 singles and 15-8 overall on the season. Foster is 6-3 on the second line and 17-9 overall.
- The Lady Rams are an even 89-89 in singles play in their first season and an impressive 53-42 in doubles action.
