ROME, GA - Texas Wesleyan University Women's Tennis once again made some noise at the ITA National Tournament. Doubles team
Paulina Hudson and
Zeynep Ege built upon their impressive resume with a trip to the semifinals of the ITA National Tournament.
In the opening round of the tournament, Hudson and Ege found themselves matched up with a tough team from Lindsey Wilson. In their opening round matchup they made history as the first pair in Texas Wesleyan Tennis history to win the opening round of the ITA National Tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the Blue Raiders. Going into the second round of the tournament, the Rams faced off with Southeastern (FL) where they had to come from behind in the first set to send it to a tiebreaker and eventually take the first set. Southeastern tied up the match with a second set victory with only a tiebreaker this set remaining. Up 8-7 in the third set, Hudson served her way to a 10-7 victory, clinching the Rams win with a 7-6 (2), 4-6, 10-7 result.
The Rams were in the semifinal of the tournamnet for the first time, looking to win just two more matches and take home first. In their semifinal matchup, the Rams faced not only another competitive team, but some competitive weather with upwards of 20 mile per hour winds. Hudson and Ege met the doubles pair from Georgia Gwinnett with a spot in the finals on the line. The Grizzlies took control early and never let go as Georgia Gwinnett advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Rams.
Texas Wesleyan has appeared in the ITA National Tournament for two consecutive years and they're looking to build on that success to come back even better next year and for several more to come. The ITA National Tournamnet is the end of the fall tennis season, with the Rams spring scheudle starting in just a few months.
