CLEREMONT, FL: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (10-13) dropped two games at the 2016 Spring Games today. The Lady Rams took a 12-2 loss to Northwestern Ohio (7-4) before losing a 5-1 game to Missouri Baptist (7-9).
The Racers got an early jump on the Rams with a five hit, seven run first inning rally.
Lauren Davis got Wesleyan on the board with a 2 RBI triple to the center field fence to make it a 7-2 game in the second inning.
The Racers stepped on the pedal again in the third, running away with a seven hit inning that led to five more crossing the plate to grab a 12-2 lead. They would hang on to the 10-point lead through the fifth inning for the win.
Bailey Terry went 1 for 2. Davis went 1 for 2 with a pair of RBI.
In the game against Missouri Baptist, the Spartan got on the board first with a four run rally in the second. The Spartan added a run in the fourth inning, while keeping tabs on the Wesleyan offense to take the 5-0 lead into sixth inning.
The Lady Rams stopped the shutout in the bottom of the sixth starting with a Makenzie Kirkpatrick pinch hit single. Later in the inning,
Lauren Davis hit a fielder's choice RBI to
score Kirkpatrick to make it 5-1.
Missouri Baptist held on in the final inning to take the 5-1 win. The Lady Rams out hit their opponent 9-8, but could not string any together to produce runs.
Corrina Palomino went 2 for 2.
Samantha Vasquez went 2 for 4 in the game.
Demi Dotson went 2 for 3 for the Lady Rams.
The Lady Rams will be back in action tomorrow, finishing up the tournament with three game against Concordia (MI) at 1:00pm, Northwestern Ohio at 3:00pm and Indiana Tech at 7:00 pm
