FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (15-14) suffered a 7-5 loss to UT-Dallas (9-9) at Sycamore Park on Wednesday. The Comets scored five unanswered runs in the final three innings to score the victory.
Wednesday's game was a rematch between Texas Wesleyan's
Alex Lopez and UTD's Aaron Bach. On February 25, Bach tossed a complete game at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie as his Comets earned a 4-1 win.
After the Comets took advantage of a Texas Wesleyan error to score a run in the top of the first,
Ryan Adam led off the bottom of the first with a single up the middle, and
Blake Seaton followed with an RBI double into the gap in left-center. A sac fly from
James Ziegler gave the Rams a 2-1 lead.
UTD's Tim Cole led off the sixth inning with a double to left and later scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
Again the Rams responded in the bottom of the inning.
Blake Seaton drew a leadoff walk and scored on a double from
Casey Moses.
Alex Gudac brought Moses in with a single up the middle. Gudac stole second and later scored on a ground ball from
Jonathan Bravo to push the score to 5-2.
The Comets kept the pressure on with an RBI single from Rodney Corbin in the seventh.
A walk and a hit batter followed by a sac bunt from David McKenzie put the tying run into scoring position with one out in the eighth. Nick Marti promptly tied the game with a two-run triple to straightaway centerfield. Josh Covey laid down a bunt and reach with an RBI single when the Rams failed to cover first base.
The Rams had runners at first and second with one out in the bottom of the eighth when
Erick Quesada lined into an unlucky 4-unassisted double-play. The Rams were running on the pitch which brought second baseman Tim Cole into perfect position to make the play.
A Texas Wesleyan error in the ninth gave UTD a 7-5 advantage, and Brandon Koncaba worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his third save of the season.
Zach Bomer (1-0) got the win after working 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Wade Regas (3-5) took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits in two innings pitched.
Alex Lopez allowed just an unearned run on three hits in five innings of work. Bach went 5.1 innings allowing five runs on 10 hits and a walk.
The Rams outhit the Comets 11-9.
