OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (10-11, 1-2 SAC) dropped a 5-3 game before edging out a 4-3 win over Southwestern Christian University (14-3, 2-1 SAC) to take their first conference win at Eagle Field on Saturday.
Â
In the first game, the Rams posted a 3-0 lead in the third inning.
Tanner McMahon singled to left field before
Ryan Mendez reached on a walk. That made way for
Ryan Adam who launched a beauty over the right-center fence for a home run.
Â
The Eagles fired back in the bottom of the inning with a four hit rally. Michael Lowe dropped in a double down the left field line to plate one. Drew Umbro followed suit with a similar shot down the line in left for a RBI before Justin Braziel knocked in the tying run with a single to right field for the share of a 3-3 ball game.
Â
Southwestern Christian took the lead in the fifth, after Umbro tripled deep in the right field corner to plate the go ahead run. Wesleyan committed an error on the next play to make it a 5-3 game before the end of the inning.
Â
The Rams got the wind knocked out of their sails and the Eagles played defense well enough to close the door on any chances of a comeback.
Â
Texas Wesleyan got things started early in the second game. The Rams got some help by way of a throwing error to put runners on base.
James Ziegler rocketed a two RBI double to center field to give TWU a 2-0 advantage.
Â
The Eagles defended their home grass by securing a 3-2 lead with a three run second inning. SCU earned a pair singles that found the gaps in the infield and worked the bases to fuel the rally. The inning was cut short by
