TEXARKANA, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's tennis team improved to 6-1 on the season with a pair of 9-0 wins over Texas A&M-Texarkana (1-13) and LSU-Shreveport (2-4) on Saturday.
The Rams swept Texarkana in spite of several challenging matches.
Emily Murchland took No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-4. Two of the three doubles contests were tightly contested.
Laura Grunden and
Emily Rodriguez took a hard fought 9-8 win over Sarah Wilbanks and Ashleigh Finley on the second line, while
Ashton Willis and
Maggie Brasher took No. 3 doubles 8-6 over Kaly Douglas and Haley Lofton.
The match marked the program's first shutout since being revived this season. They had to wait just a few hours to take the second.
LSU-Shreveport played with only five players and was overmatch by the Lady Rams. Texas Wesleyan did not drop a single game in five singles matches, while the Pilots defaulted No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Hannah Six earned her first dual match singles win by defeating Christina Elisarov 6-0, 6-0.
Ashton Willis also earned her first win on the fourth line 6-0, 6-0 over Morgan Hendriks. In doubles,
Katy Foster and
Emily Murchland breezed past Hannah Alimajstorovic and Kelsey Ellender 8-1, and
Laura Grunden and
Emily Rodriguez topped Hendriks and Katie Pourciau 8-3.
The Rams will return to action on Monday, March 7, with their first home match against Evangel University. That contest is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start at
Arlington Tennis Center.

- The Lady Rams have been listed as receiving votes in the first two NAIA Coaches' Top-25 polls of the season.
