GRAND PRAIRIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (28-14) ran its current winning streak to 13 games with a 4-1 win over Arlington Baptist College while setting a new school record for triples in a single season.
Triples from
Erick Quesada and
Alex Gudac pushed the team's season total 24 breaking the record of 23 set in 2005. At 24, the Rams also pulled within three of LSU-Shreveport who leads the nation with 27 three-baggers this season.
The Rams continued to get tremendous pitching.
Ryan Chen (4-2) went five innings, allowing just an unearned run on three hits.
Alex Lopez then came on for two scoreless innings of relief.
Wade Regas locked up his sixth save of the season by working the final two innings.
In the first inning,
Blake Seaton reached on an infield single.
Casey Moses followed with a single and Quesada ripped a triple that got past a diving Justin Olivarez in centerfield.
James Ziegler knocked in Moses with a sac fly, and the Rams led 3-0.
A pair of defensive miscues gave a run back to the Patriots in the second.
Gudac led off the seventh with a triple to left-center and came all the way around to score when the ball was bobbled.
The Rams return to action this weekend with a three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series with No. 13 Oklahoma City University. First place in the conference will be on the line as just one game separates the Rams from the SAC leading Stars.
