Lady Rams Split At MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (21-27, 12-12 SAC) took half of a double header with Mid-America Christian University (25-17, 10-10 SAC) at Jack Allen Field on Saturday. The Lady Rams won game one 4-2, before dropping game two 2-5.

Texas Wesleyan took a 1-0 edge in the top of the third working the bases and producing a run with very well executed small ball. Bailey Sugg reached base on a lead-off walk. Dani West laid down a bunt and beat the throw for an infield hit. Kaley Batchlear did her job moving the runners with a sacrifice bunt, and Bailey Terry did the same to get the runner home for a RBI sacrifice bunt to give the Lady Rams the lead.

The Evangels responded and tied the game in the next half inning on a Mykah Smith RBI single to center.

The Rams came back to take the lead in the fourth. Demi Dotson worked the count in her favor and gained a walk, stealing second during the next at bat. Lauren Davis hit a ball to shallow left to bring Dotson home for a RBI and a 2-1 lead.

Wesleyan kept the pressure on in the fifth, adding to the lead. Terry and Kayla Prachyl both poked base hits into the outfield to but two on with one away. Terry would later score on an error before Samantha Bastien hit a RBI single to left to give the Lady Rams a cushion at 4-1.

The Evangels would get one back in the bottom of the fifth, but Brittany Rosenberry (10-12) and the Wesleyan defense shut down MACU the rest of the way to gain the win.
Rosenberry tossed all seven innings in the win. She allowed just two runs on eight hits, walked two, and sat down seven.

Terry went 2 for 3 with one RBI. Davis went 3 for 4 with a RBI in the game. Bastien went 1 for 3 with a RBI for the Rams. Dotson was 1 for 1 with a walk and run scored.
In game two, the Lady Rams earned a slight edge in the first inning on a Prachyl RBI base hit that was set up by a West base hit bunt and swipe of second base to make it a 1-0 game.

The lead was erased in the bottom half of the inning due to a pair a crucial Wesleyan errors. The Evangels took advantage and scored four unearned runs in the inning to take a 4-1 lead.

TWU got one back in the third when Terry stayed hot, launching the yellow ball over the fence in the left field for a home run. That cut the lead to 4-2.

MACU added a run before taking the 5-2 win to gain the split with the Lady Rams. Terry went 1 for 2 with a homer. Davis went 2 for 2 in the loss. Prachyl went 1 for 3 with one RBI.

The Lady Rams come back home for a double header against Bacone College on Wednesday, April 20. The first game is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Sycamore Park.
