Rams Sweep Crusaders 7-2, 10-3

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (23-14) stretched its winning streak to 8-consecutive games with a doubleheader sweep of Dallas Christian College at Sycamore Park on Saturday.  The Rams won with scores of 7-2 and 10-3.

The Rams set the tone for the day right away.  In the bottom of the first, an RBI double from Erick Quesada and an RBI single from Lorenzo Lynch highlighted a 3-run frame.  In the top of the second, Alex Gudac made a sparkling catch diving toward the wall in deep left-centerfield to rob Nick Carroll of extra bases.  That proved to save a run as the Crusaders went on two score their only two runs of the game in that inning.

The Rams got those two runs back with a two-out two-run single from Casey Moses in the bottom of the second.  They added an RBI single from Gudac in the fourth and an RBI from Hayden Muns in the fifth to account for the 7-2 final score.

Ricky Hull (4-2) worked 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 5 in the win.  Gudac (2-4) and Jonathan Bravo (2-3) each had two of the Rams' 10 hits.

In game two, each of the Rams' first five hitters reached base.  Ryan Adam doubled, and Moses, Lynch, and Muns each added an RBI single.  A sac fly from Dylan Measells capped a 4-run inning.

The Crusaders got one run back in the fourth after a triple from Ronald Jackson and a single from Alex Dobbie, but the Rams exploded in the bottom of the inning, sending 11 men to the plate and scoring 6 runs on seven hits.  The inning started with consecutive hits from Measells, CJ Ateek, Chandler Schoelkopf, Garrett Crook, Ryan Adam, and Dusteyn Suttle.  Ateek closed the frame out with his second hit of the inning, an RBI single.

The Crusaders scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings, but never threatened after the big fourth inning.

Stephen Yancey (4-1) earned the win after allowing a run on four hits while striking out seven in four innings of work.  Jonathan Bravo turned in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief work allowing no hits and striking out one.

Nine Texas Wesleyan hitters had at least one safety in the game.  Adam (2-3) and Ateek (2-3) each had a pair of hits.

The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Sherman, TX, to take on Austin College.  That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.  They will return home when they host Wayland Baptist University in a Sooner Athletic Conference series Friday and Saturday at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie.
