ARLINGTON, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's tennis team (10-3) advanced to the semifinals of the
NAIA Unaffiliated Group Regional at Arlington Tennis Center with a 5-0 win over LSU-Shreveport (3-8) on Thursday. The Lady Rams will square off with Texas A&M-Texarkana (4-15) at 1:00 pm on Friday.
Against LSUS, the Pilots surrendered No. 3 Doubles and No. 6 singles by default. The Lady Rams took the remaining doubles matches, and
Emily Rodriguez defeated Christina Elisarov 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles.
Emily Murchland,
Katy Foster,
Alexa Mentesana, and
Ashton Willis all held healthy leads when the match concluded.
Foster and Murchland combined to take No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-2 to improve to 12-2 as a pair this season.
Laura Grunden and Rodriguez took No. 2 doubles 8-2.
In other tournament action, University of the Southwest defeated John Brown 5-2 and Texas A&M-Texarkana defeated Southwestern Christian 5-0. USW will take on top-seeded LSU-Alexandria at 1:00 pm on Friday.
On the men's side, Southwestern Christian (6-2) defeated John Brown (2-9) by a score of 5-2. Friday's men's action begins at 9:00 am. Our Lady of the Lake will play Southwestern Christian and Texas A&M-Texarkana will play the University of the Southwest.
