SALINA, KS: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (10-0) made it double digits with a pair of 3-1 wins over Tabor College (1-3), 23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-16 and Friends University (2-5), 25-12, 24-26, 25-17, 25-15 at the Kansas Wesleyan Tournament on Friday.

The Lady Rams had to dig out of some holes in the first set as the Blue Jays kept a slight edge. Wesleyan cut the lead down continuously, but could not a big run down the stretch. The Blue Jays would go on to take the first set, 25-23.

In the second set the Rams found a gap in the defense to take a 7-2 lead that was capped by a
Brianna Jaramillo kill. Â The Blue Jays cut the lead down to 14-11 with an Amy Horner kill, and then brought the game to 17-15 by way of Kendra Kroeker swat. The Lady Rams outscored their opponent 8-1 from there, capped by a
Shelby Stinnett kill to take the set, 25-17.

Wesleyan got out to a 13-3 advantage in the third,
Alanna Hayhurst giving the Rams their largest lead of the match. The Rams kept a 10-point lead on the Blue Jays, and led 23-10 on a
Brittni Mohle kill. Tabor got back in the game, due to some Wesleyan errors, making the game closer than it looked. A Tabor error would give the Rams the win though, 25-17.

The fourth set was played closer, with the Rams getting the first edge at 11-7 on a
Carli Owens kill. That was all Texas Wesleyan needed to get a spark as
Kiersten Mebane made it a 19-11 lead with a kill. Mohle picked up a kill before two Tabor errors made it a 25-16 match win.

Stinnett led all players with 13 kills and also picked up 16 digs in the match. Hayhurst also posted a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.
Sasha Robinson notched a double-double with 39 assists and 13 digs in the win.
Chalon Anderson led the team with 18 digs.

Texas Wesleyan posted an 8-4 lead on an Owens kill to start the match with Friends University. The Lady Rams outscored the Eagles 10-2 after a
Sasha Robinson sneaky kill made it 24-10. Robinson pulled the rug out again to give the Rams a 25-12 win.

The Eagles played the Rams close to start the second, but Friends took the lead and was stingy with it. Friends took a 17-12 lead before the Lady Rams cut the lead to 20-18 on a Jaramillo smash. Texas Wesleyan tied the game on an Anderson service ace to share a 24-24 set. The Eagles would come up with two points to hold off the Rams, 26-24.

With the match tied 1-1, Wesleyan kept the Eagles at bay with a slight edge early. TXWES started to pull away, taking a six-point, 19-13 advantage on an Owens kill. Hayhurst made it set point at 24-16 on a kill, and Wesleyan handled business to take a 2-1 match edge with a 25-17 win.

The Rams kept the tempo high, taking a 12-10 lead and turning it into a 21-13 lead with help from Stinnet and Mohle, who each had a pair of kills during the run.
Morgan Reese ended the match on a slick kill from the setting positon for a 25-15 win.

Stinnett posted 14 kills and 15 digs. Robinson notched 27 assists and 17 kills. Hayhurst grabbed 12 kills and 15 digs. Anderson had 21 digs in the win. Â Â

The Lady Rams will finish the tournament with matches against Benedictine College at 12:00 pm and Southwestern College at 4:30 pm tomorrow.
