Lady Rams Slip To MACU

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (2-8, 0-4 SAC) slipped 78-69 to Mid-America Christian University (6-4, 2-2 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.

The Evangels won the third quarter, outshooting the Lady Rams 40 percent to 17 percent, which proved to be the difference in an otherwise tightly contested game.

Karah Sicurella put in a triple to start the third quarter, but MACU let out a 13-0 outburst to take a 10-point lead at 55-45. The Evangels protected the lead with gusto, turning away a few comeback attempts. The best and last Lady Rams charge came with just over three minutes left in regulation. Nicole Gleason cut a 10-point lead to seven with a three-pointer before Adrianna Davis swatted away a shot on the other end. MACU got to the rebound, but Gleason swiped the ball and Sicurella found Davis on a jumper to make it a 74-69 game with 2:31 left in the game. The Lady Rams couldn't hit their next opportunities, and MACU escaped with the win.

Gleason led TXWES with 19 points. Adrianna Davis provided a spark with 12 points and nine boards. Sicurella had 10 points and four assists. Evie Whorley went seven points, seven rebounds in the loss.

During half time, the Lady Rams honored their own Swairie Fernando. Fernando, an international student from Sri Lanka, graduated with a degree accounting today. Fernando has been with the team since 2014 and will be missed.

The Lady Rams will take on Dillard University on Friday, December 29. The contest is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Sid Richardson Center
