Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Lady Rams Light Up Wayland Baptist, 3-0

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (RV) (11-1, 1-1 SAC) took a 3-0 (26-16, 25-15, 25-18) match from Wayland Baptist University (8-3, 2-1 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Friday.

TXWES out hit the Pioneers .340 to .175, and kept WBU off balance the entire match with clever serving and sinister swings.

The Lady Rams set the tone in the opening frame, out hitting their opponent .229 to .079. TXWES used an 8-0 rally that included three Hannah Altman service aces to gain a 10-point lead at 16-6. The Rams outpaced WBU to win the first set as Shelby Stinnett and Brianna Jaramillo led the attack with four kills each.

Texas Wesleyan rocked the gym in the second, hitting a balmy .500 with 14 kills. The home team had the Pioneers running all over the court to control the ball and fatigue started to set in. A 6-0 run capped on a Sasha Robinson kill made it a 22-13 clip. The pioneers struggled to get the ball over the net, and Tierra Coverson compounded the matter with a huge solo block on the way to the win.

It was all about the Ram in the third set as Shaylee Griffin led things off with a booming kill. Seven different Lady Rams recorded a kill before grabbing a 16-10 lead. Kiersten Mebane became the eighth different player to crack a kill before Dana Lohrke ended the match on her sixth kill of the night.

Stinnett was perfect from the floor, posting a 12-0-19 attacking line and hit .632 with 10 digs. Jaramillo hit .412 on nine kills. Robinson notched 27 assists and tacked on seven kills with no errors, hitting .389. Altman finished with four service aces in the win.

The Pioneers came into the match riding a four game win streak, their last two wins coming in straight sets to conference opponents.  TXWES is 13-15 all-time against the Pioneers.

The Lady Rams will host conference newcomer Oklahoma Panhandle State University tomorrow, starting at high noon at the Sid Richardson Center.
