Lady Rams Silence Aggies, Earn Fourth Straight Win

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (RV) (12-1, 2-1 SAC) powered past Oklahoma Panhandle State University (4-7, 2-2 SAC) in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 26-24) win at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.

In another efficient day attacking, the Lady Rams hit .317 as a team while stifling the Aggie attack, limiting OPSU to just .087 hitting in the dominant win.

The Lady Rams posted a 5-0 lead to start the match as Brianna Jaramillo and Tierra Coverson teamed up for a block on the first attack from the Aggies. Sasha Robinson tacked on two aces in the process. Brittni Mohle smashed a kill for a 7-2 advantage, and TXWES played very fluid throughout the first set. Coverson added two more kills late in the set as the Rams smoothly navigated to a first set win.

It was tale of different set, same story for the Rams in the second, outscoring their opponent 13-4 to gain a 20-9 lead, capped by a Shaylee Griffin pop for a kill. Robinson sealed the second on a no doubter.

The Aggies found some life in the third, using a few Lady Ram errors to post a 13-10 edge after a Courtney Adams, Kendra Butler block. Panhandle State was able to keep a lead for a time, beating the Ram defense by hooking up on swings and two consecutive aces by Alison Holcomb. The Rams cut the lead to a one-point, 20-19 deficit after Jaramillo, Dana Lohrke, and Mohle went for a trio a pinpoint kills. Coverson made it match point before Quiara Pointdexter and the Aggies came right back to tie the set at 24 apiece. The Lady Rams held laser focus in the final points though, getting beautiful hits from Stinnett and Jaramilo to earn their fourth straight match win.

Stinnett was sharp once again, hitting .423 with 13 kills in the win. Robinson went 25 assists, five kills, four aces, 1.5 total blocks, and nine digs in an all-around solid performance. Jaramillo hit .778 with seven kills on nine attempts in the win.
