Lady Rams Fly Streak To Four With 69-58 Win Over Eagles

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (7-11, 5-5 SAC) marched to a fourth consecutive win in a 69-58 win over Southwestern Christian University (7-9, 3-7 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.

Head coach Steve Trachier called up Tomi Sanchez to the starting lineup for an injured Nicole Gleason, and the junior from Euless, TX obliged with a career night. Tomi Sanchez went 6 for 12 from the floor and 4 for 6 from the three-point line for a career-high 20 points. She did most of her damage in the second half, using an 11-point third quarter to extend the Lady Ram lead to 14. The junior added six rebounds, and pair of assists, and a steal in the win.

The Eagles held a 10-6 lead late in the first quarter, but the Lady Rams arguably controlled the ball game for the rest of the game. TXWES used an 11-2 rally to extend the lead to 11, helped by a pair of threes from Lexi Burns. Texas Wesleyan went to the break up by ten, and quickly ran it to 14, the largest of the night, on a Sanchez triple.

McKenna Morley hit a knocked down a floater in the paint early in the fourth to cut the Southwestern Christian deficit to four, but the Lady Ram defense was just too stingy to allow a comeback. Adrianna Davis swiped a ball and found Sanchez on the other end that turned away the makings of a rally. Sanchez picked off a ball later in the quarter that led to an Evie Whorley fast break layup the turn the lead back up to 11, the eventual margin of victory.

Despite allowing 21 boards to the nation's best rebounder in Eliora Johnson (12.7 rebounds per game), Southwestern Christian just outpaced the Lady Rams, 39-38 in the category.

Lexi Burns put in 12 points, adding four assists. Falesha Fuller worked 10 points out of 14 minutes on the court. Karah Sicurella filled the box score with eight points, six assists, five rebounds, and four steals.

Next up for the Lady Rams is a trip to Oklahoma City for a bout with Mid-America Christian on Thursday, January 25. That game set for a 6:00 p.m. start.
