Warriors Handle Lady Rams, 94-64

MUSKOGEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (7-18, 5-12 SAC) dropped a 94-64 contest to Bacone College (14-12, 6-11 SAC) at Palmer Center Gym on Thursday.

In a forgettable night for the Lady Rams, the Warriors lead flourished to as many as 36 late in the third quarter, as the Lady Rams struggled from the floor, and were limited in chances due to a lopsided rebounding battle.

The Warriors got 13 more buckets to fall on 10 more chances, dominating inside on both sides of the ball. The Warriors took a 51-24 edge scoring in the paint, and also pulled down 51 rebounds compared to just 29 by Texas Wesleyan.

Nicole Gleason and Lexi Burns gave the Lady Rams an 8-4 lead to start the game, each hitting a long range shot during the run, but Bacone busted out a 13-0 rally to take a nine-point lead. TXWES went on a 6-0 rally late in the quarter to cut the lead to four, but the Warriors were unfazed. Bacone nursed a double-digit lead throughout the second quarter, taking a 50-38 lead into halftime.

The Warriors kept the pedal to floor, scoring 31 points in the third and maintaining a hefty lead until the final buzzer in an off-night for the Lady Rams.

Gleason helped the Lady Rams with 17 points and five boards. Evie Whorley stayed solid with 11 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Lexi Burns led all players with five steals.

TXWES will head to Siloam Springs, AR to take on (RV) John Brown University on Saturday, February 17 starting at 1:00 p.m.
