FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (16-7, 8-2 SAC) blasted Southwestern Assemblies of God University (8-18, 1-12 SAC) in an 11-1 run rule at Sycamore Park on Friday.
Â
The Rams had absolute control throughout the contest, making the lions pay on a few free passes. TXWES used power hitting from
Jacob Barfield and Kiki Menedez in the early innings, before jumping the Lion pitchers with a six run rally in the fifth to put the game away,
Â
Texas Wesleyan got a pair in the second, after a two-out bunt single in between home plate and the pitcher's mound from
Ted Wisdom set-up a
Jacob Barfield no-doubter (3) well over the left field fence for an early edge.
Â
Logan Bistrup was hit by a pitch to start the third inning, and went from first to third on a
Kaden Brown single into shallow left-center. Donny Lopez got the speedy Bistrup home on a sacrifice fly to mid-center to bring up
Kiki Menendez. Menedez launched his eighth homer of the season over the left-center fence to make it 5-0.
Â
Things got out of hand for SAGU in the fifth.
Cory Gallegos and
Michael Davila were both hit by pitches with one down in the inning, prompting SAGU manager Sam Blackmon to call on his bullpen. A passed ball started what would be a forgetful outing by Lion reliever Tanner Lindle.
Ted Wisdom snaked a chopper up the middle for two scores before
CJ Ateek laced one into right field for another. Bistrup and Brown each tacked on RBI base hits before the Lions brought in their third arm of the inning. Lopez capped the drive on a RBI single through the left side of the infield, and when the dust settled, it was 11-0 Rams.
Â
SAGU managed a run in the top of the seventh, and had a runner at third to try and stave off the run-rule, but TXWES starter
Stephen Yancey caught Isai Diermier looking to end the ball game. Â
Â
Yancey improved to 5-2 in the win. He tossed seven innings, allowing one unearned run on six hits, walked two, and struck out five.
Â
Seven Rams batted in runs in the win. Wisdom went 2 for 3 with two RBI. Barfield went 1 for 1 with a home run and a pair of RBI. Brown went 2 for 3 with one RBI.
Â
The Rams are now 45-4 all-time against SAGU and have won the last 14 games.
Â
The Rams and Lions will play a double header tomorrow in Waxahachie, TX starting at 1:00 p.m.
