Lady Rams Falter To Falcons

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (16-8) suffered two losses against Friends University (9-14) at Sycamore Park on Sunday. The Lady Rams dropped game one to the Falcons 16-7 in six innings, before dropping the nightcap 6-3.

It was a tough day at the office for the home team, as the Lady Rams allowed the Falcons to get away with too many free bases. That led to easy scoring situations, and the Falcons were more than eager to take advantage.

The weather once again had its effect on the game, delaying the start of the double header originally scheduled for 10:00 a.m.

In game one, Friends was able to keep innings alive on four Ram errors and a pair each of wild pitches and passed balls. After established a 3-0 lead in the first inning, TXWES charged back to take 4-3 edge by putting up scores in the first three innings.

The Falcons found five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding 13-4 lead.

Although Bailey Terry went deep to left-center for a three-run home run, the Falcons went on to match that number in the top of the fifth on the way to the lopsided win.

Terry went 1 for 3 with four RBI on a home run and sacrifice fly. Jenna Rhoades and Lauren Wernet each went 2 for 3 for TXWES.

In game two, Friends did most of their damage with a five-run third inning.

Samantha Bastien got the Lady Rams on the board in the bottom of the third with a worm-burner through the left side.

Wernet singled home another run in the fourth before Makenna Aycock did the same in the fifth, but that would not be enough as the Falcons took a 6-3 win.

Texas Wesleyan will end its 13 game home stand with a conference double header with SAGU on Wednesday, March 21 starting at 2:00 p.m.
