FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University Men (2-5) and Women's (4-4) Tennis teams were defeated in a dual match against NCAA Division II UT Permian Basin on Saturday. The Rams fell 9-0, while the Lady Rams fell by a score of 8-1.
The lone win of the day came in No. 3 doubles for the Lady Rams.
Laura Grunden and
Mae Covacevich defeated Amelie Saint-Dizier and Madison Hoeltin 9-8 in a tiebreaker.
Grunden and Covacevich improved to 10-7 on the season as a doubles pair, while they moved to 5-1 in No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Ashton Williis played well on the fourth line before falling 7-5, 6-0. Grunden also pushed Hoelting in No. 6 singles 6-3, 6-3.
On the men's side the Rams were competitive in all three doubles matches. Florian Scmitt and
Linus Richter fell 8-5 on the top line, while No. 2 and 3 doubles ended in scores of 8-3.
In singles, Smitt fell in a first set tiebreaker 7-6 and then Raul Stevens took the second set 6-1. Richter pushed Marcos Silva to 6-3, 6-3 in No. 2 singles.
The Rams are back in action at Arlington Tennis Center on Saturday when they host Midland University. That match is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
