Lady Rams Light Up Eagles

BETHANY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (20-10, 6-2 SAC) outscored Southwestern Christian University (8-16, 3-7 SAC) 38-6 in doubleheader at Eagle Field on Saturday. The Lady Rams took game one 14-2 before igniting to a 24-4 game two win.

TXWES matched a school record 12 walks in game one, as the Eagles pitchers could not find the strike zone. Most of the damage was done in the seventh inning, but the Lady Rams held the lead throughout the contest.

Texas Wesleyan held a 4-2 edge on the Eagles until things went haywire in the final frame. SCU issued seven straight free passes before Demi Dotson and Kayla Prachyl found pitches to hit, each firing off two-run singles. Jenna Rhoades laced a triple into left center to clear the bases. Bailey Terry drove in the 10th run of the inning on a single through the left side to cap the drive.

Makenna Aycock (6-3) went three up, three down in the bottom of the seventh to seal the 14-2 game one win. She allowed two runs on two hits, had no walks, while striking out a career-high nine batters.

Game two proved to be just as wild as game one.

The Lady Rams lit up the diamond with 26 hits, including a 13-hit, 17-run second inning. 22 batters came to the plate in an inning that featured four doubles, one triple, and 15 RBI. Again, this was all in a single inning. Lauren Wernet drove in four, including a two RBI triple to right-center.

The offensive bonanza that was the second inning was after a five run first, another inning in which TXWES batted around.

With the game in hand, the Lady Rams cruised to the fifth inning, grabbing two more on a Prachyl two-run double to deep center.

Southwestern Christian went on a short three run rally in the bottom of the fifth, but could not hold a candle to incredible display of swings from TXWES.

Nine Lady Rams had a multi-hit game, while six had a multi RBI game, including Wernet, who went 4 for 4 with four RBI. Ashton Davis went 3 for 3 with three RBI.

TXWES will take on Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK on Wednesday, March 28. The double header is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
