Lady Rams Split At Bacone, Warriors Steal Game Two

MUSKOGEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (32-12. 16-4 SAC) suffered a disappointing split with Bacone College (10-30, 4-18 SAC) on Saturday. The Lady Rams made a comeback to win game one to win 8-4 before getting upset 9-5 in game two.

The Lady Rams left nine runners stranded and out hit their opponent 12-9 in game two, but the Warriors took a pair of four-run rallies to power to the upset.

In game one, TXWES got a two-run dinger from Bailey Terry, her 13th of the season, to lead 2-0.

The Warriors took a run in the second inning and three in the third to gain a 4-2 advantage.

Lauren Wernet (10-5) shut the Bacone bats down from there though, as the senior worked 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk, while striking out one in the win.

Wernet got offensive help from her teammates, scoring six runs in the last three innings to regain the lead. Saeya Esparza came through with a two-run double to left in the fifth inning to tie the game at 4 apiece, while an error allowed the third run to score for the lead. Jenna Rhoades and Terry each drove in a run in the sixth before Terry added one more in the seventh to cap the scoring at 8-4.

Terry went 2 for 2 with four RBI. She now has 51 RBI on the season, which ranks seventh in the nation. Rhoades went 4 for 5 with one RBI. Kaylee Davenport went 1 for 1 with a triple in a pinch hit spot.

In game two, the Warriors got a three-run home run from Emily Davidson to highlight a four-run third inning.

Tobi Bonifacio knocked in a run with a double to left field in the fourth inning to open scoring for the Lady Rams. Taylor Sutton followed that up with a RBI double to right-center in the fifth. TXWES grabbed two more in the sixth to cut the lead to one at 5-4 after Kayla Prachyl and Davenport each plated a run.

The Warriors protected home turf and busted out another four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth that included a Nia Maxwell two-run homer to center field.

The Lady Rams were only able muster one run in the seventh, but Bacone was able to hold on for the upset win.

Sutton was 2 for 4 with one RBI. Demi Dotson went 2 for 3, while Esparza had a 2 for 4 game.
