CHICKASHA, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (34-16, 18-8 SAC) fell to No. 3 Science and Arts (45-3, 25-3 SAC) in a doubleheader at Bill Smith Park on Friday. The Drovers worked a 6-1 game one win before taking game two, 7-1.
Â
Lauren Wernet went 2 for 6 and was the only player to record a hit in each of the two games today.
Bailey Terry (1 for 2 in game one) and
Taylor Sutton (1 for 3 in game two) recorded the only two RBI on the day.
Â
Sidney Stewart showed some grit in game one in relief. The sophomore from Forney, TX worked five spotless innings on four hits, walked a pair, and struck out a pair. Â
Â
The Drovers surely had this doubleheader highlighted and circled in their calendars and it was evident from the start. USAO sent 10 batters to the plate in the first and when the dust settled, the Drovers had a 6-0 lead.
Â
Emily Cerny (23-2) subdued the TXWES bats, allowing a RBI double by Terry, one of just four hits, while striking out 11.
Â
Makenna Aycock (12-5) got the loss.
Â
The Lady Rams led off game two with a run in the first inning. Sutton singled home
Kayla Prachyl, who led off the inning with a walk, to grab a 1-0 edge.
Â
The Drovers tied the game in the third on a RBI groundout, but the Lady Rams got out of the inning to keep the game square at one apiece.
Â
The score stayed deadlocked until USAO posted another big rally, grabbing six runs in the sixth inning and taking a commanding 7-1 lead heading into the seventh. TXWES went three up and three down as the Science and Arts returned the favor, taking the home sweep as the Lady Rams did just two weeks ago.
Â
The Lady Rams will come back home for a meeting with Mid-America Christian. The two teams split yesterday, but the Texas Wesleyan will look to take two from the Evangels on Wednesday, April 25 at Sycamore Park. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
