ARLINGTON, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University Men and Women's Tennis teams are hosting an NAIA Regional tournament at Arlington Tennis Center Friday and Saturday.  Friday's action saw both teams reach the semifinal round while the Lady Rams have advanced to the Regional final for the third consecutive season.
 
The men's team finished its reboot season with a record of 5-8 after a quarterfinal victory over the Southwestern Christian University (3-9) and a semifinal loss to top-seeded Texas A&M-Texarkana (17-4).
 
Against SCU, the Rams won 5-0 after sweeping the doubles competition and getting a 3-set (3-6, 7-5, 10-8) win from Linus Richter in No. 2 singles and a 6-4, 6-1 victory by Mace Brasher on line three.
 
Top-seeded A&M-Texarkana defeated the Rams 6-0 in the semifinal.
 
The Lady Rams (10-5) breezed to a 5-0 quarterfinal win over University of the Southwest (0-2).  The Eagles defaulted two points to the Rams.  Emily and Sydney Rodriguez as well as Laura Grunden and Mae Covacevich took wins in No. 1 and 2 doubles, while Mae Covacevich clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 3 singles.
 
The semifinal with Texas A&M-Texarkana (12-9) was a much different affair as the Lady Rams just edged out the Eagles 5-4.
 
The Eagles took a 2-1 lead after doubles play.  Laura Grunden and Mae Covacevich combined to salvage an important point with an 8-1 win on the third line.
 
In singles play, TAMUT won on the top two lines, but the Rams swept 4 through 6 singles including a thrilling 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win from Covacevich on line three.
 
For the third consecutive season, the Lady Rams will meet top-seeded LSU Alexandria in the Regional Championship.  The Generals (9-6) advanced with a 5-0 win over LSU Shreveport (3-8).  Saturday's Championship is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start, following the men's final between Our Lady of the Lake and Texas A&M-Texarkana which will begin at 9:00 a.m.
