Box Score FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (39-12, 18-7 SAC) outpaced Southwestern Assemblies of God University (22-26, 8-17 SAC) in a 9-3 win in the home finale at Sycamore Park on Friday.
The Lions posted an early lead in the first inning, after a two-hit frame led to an unearned run after a Ram error.
The score stayed that way until the Rams blew the doors off with a five-run fourth. TXWES sent all nine to the plate, tallying seven hits, all singles save the two-run triple to deep right by
Brooks Wallace.
The Lions added a run in the sixth, but the Rams bested that with four in the bottom half. SAGU dug a hole to start the fame, hitting two batter and walking another, all with no outs.
Michael Davila supplying the highlight – a two-run double of the left-center wall to make it a 9-2 game.
The Lions managed one more run, but the Rams continued to outpace the visitors from Waxahachie. Texas Wesleyan added three runs in the final two at bats, a RBI single by
Mark Schreiner in the seventh and a two-run single from Wallace.
Tres Underwood closed out the game in the ninth to secure the win for the Rams.
Starter
Cameron Vige (8-3) picked up the win. He threw six innings, giving up two runs (one earned), on four hits, two walks, while striking out nine.
Wallace led the offensive attack, going 2 for 2 with four RBI and a walk. Davila went 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI. Schreiner went 3 for 5 with two RBI and a walk.
The Rams will take the short drive to Waxahachie, Texas to finish up regular season play in a double header with SAGU. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
